Healthcare professionals in Palo Alto have a real scheduling problem. Stanford Hospital operates around the clock. Dignity Health Sequoia Hospital and the Menlo Park VA Medical Center keep staff rotating through long shifts. Finding a block of time for a traditional classroom CPR course is hard—especially when you’re already working 12-hour days near the Stanford University campus.
Self-Guided Learning™ courses change that. Safety Training Seminars, located at 467 Hamilton Avenue, Suite 5, in downtown Palo Alto, offers American Heart Association® BLS, ACLS, and PALS courses using this flexible format. You complete the cognitive portion on your own device, on your own schedule. Then you come in for a short, self-guided skills session at a CPR Verification Station™ learning center. That’s it.
Here’s everything you need to know about how it works.
Self-Guided Learning™ courses combine two independent components:
Both parts are required. Completing the online learning activity alone does not result in an American Heart Association Course Completion eCard. You need both to finish the course pathway.
This format works for nurses at Stanford Hospital on Pasteur Drive, paramedics serving the Baylands Nature Preserve area, and medical students rotating through clinics near Memorial Church. Anyone who needs BLS, ACLS, or PALS Provider status without a rigid classroom schedule benefits from this approach.
The online learning portion uses True Adaptive™ learning powered by Area9 Lyceum. This technology continuously assesses your knowledge and confidence in real time. Instead of forcing every learner through the same content at the same pace, the system identifies your gaps and adjusts dynamically.
Experienced providers spend less time reviewing content they already know. Newer learners receive targeted feedback and remediation where they need it most. Every learner follows a personalized learning pathway.
You can access the course on a desktop, laptop, or tablet—during a break, after a night shift, or between rounds. BLS takes one to two hours online. ACLS and PALS each take two to three hours. You pause, resume, and review anytime.
The online learning activity includes:
After finishing the online learning activity, you schedule a skills session at the CPR Verification Station learning center at 467 Hamilton Ave, Suite 5, Palo Alto. The office is open Monday through Sunday, 8 AM to 10 PM. Parking is available at the Cowper/Hamilton Lot H at 530 Cowper Street or the Civic Center Garage at 250 Hamilton Avenue.
No instructor facilitates or evaluates this session. You complete all skills independently.
The CPR Verification Station learning center provides:
This simulation technology measures your performance more precisely than traditional instructor observation. If you need to repeat a skill to achieve a passing score, you can. The system supports repeated practice as needed.
Skills sessions for BLS take approximately 30 minutes. ACLS and PALS skills sessions each take about 30 minutes as well. Wear comfortable clothing—jeans work fine. You will be kneeling and practicing hands-on skills.
Once you complete both the online learning activity and the self-guided skills session, you receive an American Heart Association Course Completion eCard for BLS, ACLS, or PALS. Safety Training Seminars issues this eCard the same day you complete your skills session.
The eCard:
Nurses, physicians, paramedics, EMTs, dental professionals, and allied healthcare workers serving facilities like Stanford Hospital, Dignity Health Sequoia Hospital, and the Menlo Park VA Medical Center all qualify for this course pathway.
The Self-Guided Learning approach removes two major barriers: fixed class times and group scheduling.
You don’t coordinate with other learners. You don’t wait for the next available instructor-led class. You complete the online learning activity when it fits your shift. You walk into the 467 Hamilton Ave location during any operating hour, seven days a week, and finish your skills session in under an hour.
Safety Training Seminars has held an American Heart Association Training Center designation since 1989. The Palo Alto location carries over 20,000 Google reviews with a 4.8 out of 5 average rating across the broader Safety Training Seminars network.
Course prices at the Palo Alto location are:
Safety Training Seminars also offers a Low Price Guarantee. If you find another provider offering legitimate AHA training for less, they match or beat it.
Self-Guided Learning™ courses for BLS, ACLS, and PALS give Palo Alto healthcare professionals a direct, flexible path to American Heart Association Course Completion eCards. You study online at your own pace, verify your skills locally at the CPR Verification Station learning center, and walk out the same day with your eCard.

Super easy!it seems like they really want you to pass and do well, the active feedback was helpful. As well as being able to redo a test if you didn’t get a score you likedPosted on Marcia TempleTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I booked my class one day in advance. The skills testing site was clean and organized. Equipment was in very good working order. Instructions were clear and easy to follow. Phone customer service was polite, knowledgable and efficient. BLS certification available before I left the testing center. Thank youPosted on Karin SteinTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. At first, I was skeptical of an online class. The quality of the video instruction was excellent I appreciated that I could go back and rewatch the material I was uncomfortable with Honestly, I also like not dealing with other people stupid questions The practice/test on the dummy worked really well My only concern was that it didn’t have you walk through the entire sequence from finding the person collapse to doing CPRPosted on Ruth PonceTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. It was accessible and well-instructed.Posted on Christina NgTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. This was a quick and painless way to renew my BLS certification. I have been doing it through this company for over 25 years and they have locations in every city I have moved to. The testing has changed over the years, but only gets better and more efficient every time!
